Video Trimmer

Video trimming removes unwanted portions from the beginning, end, or middle of a video file. Traditional online trimmers require uploading your entire video to a server — a 500MB clip on a 10 Mbps connection takes about 7 minutes just to upload, plus processing time, plus download time. This tool uses ffmpeg.wasm, a WebAssembly compilation of the industry-standard FFmpeg library, running entirely in your browser. The first load takes 10-30 seconds to download the WASM engine (~30MB), which is cached for subsequent visits. After that, trimming is immediate: set your start and end points on the timeline, preview the selection, and export. The output maintains the original video quality — no re-encoding by default for simple trims (stream copy mode), which means a 1GB file trims in seconds regardless of duration. For precise frame-accurate cuts that require re-encoding, processing time depends on your device: a modern laptop handles 1080p video at roughly 10-30x realtime. Your video files never leave your device — critical for personal footage, business content, and anything you would not want on a third-party server.

The most frequent trimming needs are removing dead air at the start and end of recordings, cutting out mistakes or pauses from screen recordings, extracting highlights from long gameplay or event footage, and trimming social media clips to platform length limits (Instagram Reels: 90 seconds, TikTok: 10 minutes, YouTube Shorts: 60 seconds). For content creators, trimming is typically the first step in the editing workflow — rough cuts before fine editing in a full editor. Screen recordings often have setup time at the beginning (opening applications, navigating to the right screen) and wind-down at the end that should be trimmed. Meeting recordings benefit from removing the first few minutes of small talk and the last minutes after the productive discussion ends. Security camera footage often needs to be trimmed to the relevant event before sharing with authorities or insurance companies. Supported input formats include MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, and MKV. Output defaults to MP4 (H.264) for maximum compatibility across devices and platforms.
